One of the truly wonderful benefits of being in the Philippines is the ability to have maids to help with the housework and more. This is especially true for a single guy like myself.
Over time, I have learned that culture and language barriers can cause some challenges and also some amusing situations.
The other day I sent my helper a text message requesting she send over a lunch to the office I was visiting. I asked her to make me a peanut butter and jam sandwich, along with some other items.
When my lunch arrived, I unpacked it and got ready to eat. I noticed in the plastic container there were two sandwiches. This was a bit out of the ordinary, and my helper knows I only eat one. So I took the two sandwiches out and inspected them.
One sandwich had peanut butter on it.
One sandwich had jam on it.
Later I explained to her that peanut butter and jam sandwich is one sandwich containing both peanut butter and jam
